Packing List For Cultural Journeys

Clothing List

Please note – it is always best to bring a variety of clothing so that “layering” can be done and layers removed or added during the many weather shifts and according to altitude gain or loss during days spent in the Himalaya. Consider and start with the following:

  • Long underwear (synthetic / quick drying type – both top and bottoms);
  • Wool socks /  synthetic socks, sock liners (for colder seasons) and lighter cotton versions for summer / monsoon;
  • Wind shell or light rain jacket
  • Down jacket (winter season)
  • Pile or fleece jacket or vest – for cooler evenings and mornings
  • Warm wool hat and gloves (for winter season)
  • Sun hat
  • Water-­resistant light weight trekking boots or walking shoes (broken in or worn in advance)
  • Several long sleeve shirts and t-­‐shirts
  • Calf-length trekking / walking skirt for women
  • Rain poncho, jacket and/or umbrella

Additional Equipment and Accessories:

  • High altitude UV sunglasses
  • Torch or flashlight / headlamp
  • Swimwear for use in hot spring
  • Scarf for cold weather and / or cotton bandanas for hot locations
  • Light weight foot wear for camp or evening use (Teva sandals or light sports shoes)
  • Day pack to carry your personal items while out during the day
  • Refillable or reusable water bottle (to carry drinking water during day and can be used as hot water bottle at night)
  • Walking sticks (if desired)
  • Quick dry towel (optional)
  • Durable zip duffel bag or “soft” suitcase to store all gear

Other Items:

  • Personal medical kit including own items / needs (Para-cetamol or aspirin, Ibruprofin, Peto-bismal tablets and motion sickness medication – if prone for long bus rides or drives on winding roads across mountain passes)
  • Sun screen
  • Lip balm or chap stick and lotion to protect sensitive skin
  • Snacks and treats for in the car and hiking to various destinations (although tea and biscuits will be readily available) and also additional food / snacks in support of any special dietary restrictions (and please do let us know about these well in advance!)
  • Herbal tea bags or instant hot drink mixes (if desired)
  • Wet wipes or hand sanitizer
